Building Community One Note at a Time... since the 1800s
Marysville, Washington was founded in 1872 and 25 years later, the Marysville Band posed for the photo below. We don't know much about the band's history in the years between 1872 and 1996; if you know anything about those years or any details about the photo below (where they are, who they are, etc) please contact us and help us fill in these blanks!

1996
Modern iteration of the band is formed under the direction of Liz Van Dyke. Called Marysville City Bands to reflect the smaller ensembles within the larger group.
2000
The band is struggling. Pastor Greene takes over direction of the band to try to keep it going, but it folds in 2001.
2012
Nate Sackman and Peter Joseph revive Marysville City Bands.
2014
James Orr and Ben Peterson take over the direction of the group.
2015
A big year for the band! In the spring it becomes an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and in the summer it offers its first summer session under multiple directors. In the fall, Jordan Alexander takes over as director.
2016
Steven Utt takes over as director in the fall.
2020
COVID-19 hits; the band goes on a long hiatus to try to protect its members.

2022-Present
The band regroups under Jordan Alexander for the summer session. Rebranded as Marysville Community Band with an updated logo, new website, and sponsorship program, the group sees rapid growth and strengthened bonds with our community. In June of 2024, the band performs at the Strawberry Festival for the first time!
